Welcome to my blog. If you are currently experiencing a battle with cancer, are a family member or friend of someone with cancer, or are simply someone who loves to hear a good miracle story, I hope that you will find wisdom and inspiration in the posts to follow. You see, on May 23, 1996, my four year old son, Robby, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma. This malignant cancer attacks the brain and spinal cord. It is very aggressive and normally spreads rapidly without treatment. Even with treatment, the prognosis is often very poor for those who are diagnosed with it, yet I believe there is reason to hope. For two long years we fought to save our son's life. We labored long and hard, doing all that we knew how to do, until we had nothing left but to surrender. Then, in May of 1998, Jesus stepped in and did what only He could do...He healed our son! Yes, miracles do still happen.
This is a greatly oversimplified version of the struggles that we went through. If you are a parent of a child with cancer, then you surely have some idea what I am talking about. Yes, all cancer patients have serious trials, but parents have the added burden of making a decision for someone else and often have the weight of the authorities dictating to them what kind of decisions they can even make. We tried and learned many things along the way. I can say that one thing is certain...there is still no known medical cure for cancer, only ways to manage it. Each person must be responsible to prayerfully consider all options, as they find what works for them.
I am currently working on a book that details the pain, challenges and trials along with the many gifts, blessings, and beautiful relationships created along our journey. It is my hope that it will serve to inspire and bring hope to all those who currently battle this dreaded disease. I am starting this blog to connect with those currently in treatment, and their loved ones, so that I can in some small way give of all that has been given to me. In the days and weeks to come, as I write each chapter, I will come here to reflect on everything that happened to us and for us along the path to healing. If I can be of any help to you by answering questions or connecting you with others who can help you, please let me know. I would love to get your feedback.
